Delete my data

Last updated: 17 June 2026

You can ask us to delete your BrightFuture account and the data associated with it at any time, whether or not you still have the app installed. This page explains exactly how, and what to expect.

1 Overview

BrightFuture doesn't store the resume content you type on our servers — it lives on your device and is only sent to our AI provider at the moment you generate a document (see our Privacy Policy for details). So account deletion mainly concerns three things: your sign-in identity, your purchase history, and short-lived usage records.

2 How to request deletion

1 Email us

Send a request to privacy@brightfuture.app from the email address associated with your account (the one you used to sign in with Google, Facebook, or LinkedIn). Use the subject line "Delete my BrightFuture account."

2 We confirm your identity

We'll reply to confirm we've matched your request to an account. This step exists to stop someone else from deleting your account on your behalf.

3 We delete your data

We remove your account and the records described below, and confirm once it's done. See Timeline for how long this takes.

Note for the app's current version: account deletion is currently handled manually via the email process above rather than a self-service button inside the app. If you're the developer reading this before launch: Play Console's Data Safety form accepts an external deletion process like this one, but consider adding an in-app "Delete my account" action in a future update for a smoother experience — until then, keep this page accurate to what actually happens when someone emails in.

3 What gets deleted

DataResult
Your account (name, email, profile photo from sign-in)Permanently deleted
Entitlement records (what you've purchased and downloaded)Permanently deleted
Usage/rate-limit countersAlready short-lived; deleted immediately if any remain
Resume content stored on your deviceRemoved when you uninstall the app, or sooner if you clear the app's data in Android settings — this is on your device, not something we hold

4 What we keep, and why

A small amount of information may be retained even after deletion, for specific, limited reasons:

  • Records tied to completed purchases may be kept in anonymised or aggregated form for as long as required by South African tax and accounting law, even after your account itself is deleted. This is a legal record-keeping obligation, not a way of continuing to identify you personally.
  • Google Play's own purchase records are retained by Google according to their policies, independent of anything we do on our side — deleting your BrightFuture account does not delete your Google Play purchase history.

5 Timeline

We aim to complete deletion requests within 30 days of confirming your identity. You'll receive a confirmation email once it's done.

6 Want to delete specific data instead of your whole account?

If you'd rather just clear the resume content stored on your device without deleting your account entirely, you can do this yourself without contacting us:

  • Open the BrightFuture app and start a new resume — this overwrites the previous draft stored on your device.
  • Or, in Android Settings, go to Apps → BrightFuture → Storage & cache → Clear storage to remove all locally-saved draft data at once (you'll be signed out, and any in-progress draft will be lost).

For removing your purchase history or account specifically while keeping the rest, mention that in your email and we'll do our best to accommodate it — though some purchase records may need to be retained per the legal reasons above.
